onX and Pheasants Forever Unite in the Name of Public Land Access
onX and Pheasants Forever partner on two access initiatives focused on unlocking and improving public lands
MISSOULA, Mont. (September 9, 2020) — onX is pleased to announce its recent partnership with Pheasants Forever, and their quail conservation division, Quail Forever. The alliance will involve onX’s Report a Land Access Opportunity project and Pheasants Forever’s Build A Wildlife Area initiative. Both programs are concentrated on enhancing access to pheasant and quail habitat across America’s public lands.
onX’s Report a Land Access Opportunity is set to gain support from Pheasants Forever, the conservation organization which harbors the nation’s largest member base of upland hunters. Pheasants Forever plans to promote the campaign and will encourage their members to engage the reporting process through the onX Hunt App. The Report a Land Access Opportunity allows hunters to submit opportunities to improve access to public lands and waters. Sportsmen and women can submit locations meeting any of the following criteria:
- Properties currently for sale that could secure a new public access route to public lands
- Public land parcels that have no legal access routes
- Gates or roadblocks restricting travel to public lands
- Public waters that are difficult or impossible to reach
- Places where the public is trespassing when trying to reach public land
Once submitted, a dedicated team from onX and their conservation partners will vet the opportunities. onX will then pursue those opportunities that prove to be the most advantageous to hunters, fisherman, and other outdoor recreationists.
“Since our inception we’ve gained a profound understanding of the challenges that plague public land access,” said onX Founder Eric Siegfried. “We’re thrilled to gain the support of Pheasants Forever and we’re confident that their immense network of wing shooters will help us to identify new access opportunities. On-the-ground knowledge is invaluable.”
In a reciprocal manner, onX has agreed to provide $15k to Pheasants Forever’s Build A Wildlife Area program. onX’s donation will be matched at a minimum of $3:$1. The funds have been allocated towards the securement of a new 281-acre River Wildlife Area in Tama County, Iowa. The property which is currently owned by Pheasants Forever is being transitioned over to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, a transaction made possible in large thanks to support from onX.
“Funding from conservation partners like onX allows us to match an individual’s investment in public lands exponentially,” explained Pheasants Forever & Quail Forever President & CEO Howard Vincent. “Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever’s Build a Wildlife Area program culminates the hunting industry’s commitment to improving public land access.”
Founded in 2009, onX’s maps encompass 985 million acres of public land and more than 121 million private properties. Hunters and outdoorsmen are able to use their mobile phones as a GPS, tracking their movements, delving through different topographic maps with unique applications for hunting, fishing, hiking, offroading, and more. Those maps are accessible via a membership or can be used on a traditional GPS device with a purchased, pre-loaded chip.
